Choosing Your Server Type
XyNexT has accounts available on
either Unix servers or on Windows NT servers.
-
It has been our experience that,
on average, Unix servers tend to be faster and more stable.
-
We have a greater ability to
customize the environments and processes on the Unix servers.
-
We can provide telnet access upon
customer request to the Unix servers (not available on NT).
FrontPage can be used on either server type but
was initially created on Unix systems. Some of its features cannot be
used on NT servers. These include discussion groups and the ability to
assign specific access privileges (such as browse, author and
administer) to multiple users on subwebs.
Two file types that cannot be run on Unix are:
.mdb (MS Access Databases)
and .asp (MS Active Server
Pages)
If you do not require either of these two
services, we strongly recommend ordering a Unix account. XyNexT
charges a $50 service fee to change accounts from one server to another.
This fee does not include the transfer of the client's files. It merely
provides for a blank site to be set up on the new server. The client
would then re-publish or re-upload their files.
